Surrey, for the first time, has been ranked in the top ten best mid-sized American cities of the future and has risen four points to fourth place for best mid-sized city for connectivity by the fDi Intelligence division of the Financial Times.

Here are just a few of the determining factors for why the City of Surrey has been repeatedly recognized as one of the top locations in Canada to invest:

Strategic Regional and Global Connections

One of our key strengths is our strategic location and connectivity. Surrey is a prime gateway for Asian-Pacific-Canadian trade, with three international airports less than an hour from the Surrey City Centre, near universal access to high-speed broadband internet, two US land border crossings, and the largest multi-purpose marine terminal on the West Coast of North America. Regionally, SkyTrain rapid transit connects us within 45 minutes to downtown Vancouver and a new expansion is underway to extend the line through Surrey and to Langley. Additional investments are also being made to our transformation infrastructure, such as the expansion of our port facilities, improvement of express bus services, and continued integration of smart technologies into our roads.

Innovation is in our DNA

“The City of Surrey's active digital and physical infrastructure investments, coupled with our business-friendly environment and vibrant innovation ecosystem, is creating an ideal location for high technology and Industry 4.0 companies to grow and thrive, while staying connected to global markets.”

-Mayor Doug McCallum

The City of Surrey is dedicated to fostering an environment that facilitates innovation through partnerships with industry, academia, and government. Some of our successes include a partnership with Simon Fraser University in establishing Innovation Boulevard and bolstering our health technology ecosystem, as well as a collaboration with Simon Fraser University and Kwantlen Polytechnic University, with industry consultation, on advancing Industry 4.0 through the Surrey Advanced Manufacturing and Innovation Economy (AMIE) Labour Market Study.
